VIP Studios specializes in various genres of music such as pop, rock, folk and blues music. Primarily genres which utilize steel stringed acoustic and electric guitars and bass guitars. Keep in mind that for new students being introduced to learning music for the first time, our instructors' primary focus is on teaching the fundamental and rudimentary basics of music theory, and therefore genre is less relevant in the learning process. As the students progress in their knowledge and technique, lessons will graduate towards more specific genres of music. 

Our beginner guitar classes are ideal for students ages 9 and up. We find that children in this age range have the coordination and focus needed to start learning guitar basics, including holding the instrument and finger positioning. For younger students, we recommend a preliminary consultation to ensure they are ready and excited to begin!

Owning a guitar is not required for the first lesson. We offer rental instruments for students who don’t have their own, so they can still get started with confidence. However, for practice at home, we strongly recommend investing in a guitar as lessons progress, and our staff is available to offer guidance on selecting the right instrument.

For their first lesson, students should bring their guitar and a pick (if they have one), a notebook, and a pencil. Once enrolled in a multi-week course, the student should bring their guitar, a tuner and a guitar pick, a music stand, a notebook, pencil and the lesson book assigned for the course. These can be purchased at our studio. As they progress, they may benefit from additional learning materials, which our instructors can recommend based on their level and interests.

Our classes are structured by skill level, with separate courses for beginners and intermediates. Each class covers essential skills through fun, interactive lessons. Beginner classes focus on the basics, like tuning, holding the guitar, and playing simple chords. Intermediate classes introduce advanced techniques, chords, and scales. Lessons also include group practice to build teamwork and confidence.

In the first lesson, students will learn the parts of the guitar, how to properly hold it, and the basics of strumming and picking. We also introduce basic chords and some fun exercises to get them comfortable with the instrument. Parents can expect this first class to be engaging and focused on making students feel excited about learning.

We recommend that students practice for 10-15 minutes a day when starting out, gradually increasing as they feel more confident. Consistent practice is key to progress, and we provide students with structured exercises they can do at home to reinforce what they learn in class.

Students often start learning simple songs within the first few weeks. By the end of our 12-14 week beginner course, most students are able to play basic songs and are comfortable with essential chords and strumming patterns. Progress varies depending on the student’s commitment and practice, but our instructors are here to ensure each student achieves their goals!

We welcome parents to observe the first lesson to get a feel for the class environment and teaching style. Afterward, we generally find students benefit from a distraction-free environment. At the end of the course, students have the opportunity to perform in a recital for family and friends, showcasing their progress and hard work.

Students benefit from learning alongside peers, which can enhance motivation and help build teamwork skills. We keep class sizes small to ensure that each student receives personalized guidance while still enjoying the social benefits of group learning.

If your child has some guitar experience, we offer intermediate classes that build on the basics with advanced chords, techniques, and music theory. We also offer an assessment to place students in the right class level, so they’re always learning at a pace that’s comfortable yet challenging.

Yes, we offer private lessons for students who prefer one-on-one instruction or need help with specific areas. Private lessons are a great complement to group classes, allowing students to dive deeper into areas of interest or focus on particular techniques at their own pace.

Yes! At the end of each 12 week course, students have the chance to perform for family and friends in our soundproof LIVE room, where they can showcase what they’ve learned on stage. It’s a rewarding experience that helps build confidence and gives students a goal to work toward.
